Design is energy. It is the energy that helps people lead a good life. It is an element that creates desire. So, when you design, there is one key ingredient of the world that you design: Desire.
Designing New Little Worlds
When you Design Desire, you are designing new little worlds. You are designing new moments in those new little worlds. Desire drives the world. Desire drives progress. Desire drives people. Desire drives communities. Desire drives organisations.
Every human being is a designer. We design our time. We design our space. We design our energy. We design our life. We design our desires. We do it every day. Every moment.
If the purpose of your life is to create and lead a beautiful and successful life, every day of your life must be focused on Design.
How & Why
Everything that you see in the world is Designed. Every flower is a design. Every butterfly is a design. Every tree is a design. And even each leaf is a design. And if there is a design, there is a designer who designed it. So, before you design, be inspired by the beautiful world around you.
Remember, everything that you see in the world is Designed – Designed for a purpose. The soul of Design is purpose. If there is no purpose at the soul of design, the design will not be impactful. The design will not be lasting long. The design will not be timeless.
The ultimate in Design is Designing your life – Designing your career, Designing your family, Designing your success and Designing your future continuously – today, tomorrow and every day.
To design your life, you must practice by designing everything around you, every day and every moment of your life – Design your time, Design your day, Design your work, Design your daily productivity and in the long run, Design your habits. Designing your Habits are very, very important because 95% of all your decisions are governed by your habits.
First and foremost, design Your Time, Your Space and Your Purpose. Design Now. Design this moment. When you design and organise your physical things, you are organising your mind, your energies.
Business of Design
The primary objective of a professional Design is to attract and enchant human minds to make living on this planet worthwhile by making life interesting and meaningful. If you wish to attain this high purpose, start with a good intention and pay attention to it till the moment you complete your design.
A flower is designed to attract the right kind of bees to it. Bees drink the nectar of the flower and in exchange help the flower pollinate. There is a give and take here. There is a transaction. In fact, a good deal. Flowers value the pollination process that bees do and in turn the bees value the nectar that the flower gives. Design must always be a part of a transaction. Then, it will become an element of value creation for the world. Finding value and respecting value is the key to all transactions, all successes and the foundational perspective to create an impactful life. This is no different in the business of Design.
Always keep in mind that you are not designing designs; you are designing new energy. To design new energy, you need to design with energy. Then, you must value your designs yourself first. The world will find value in you, only if you learn to value yourself first. This is no different in the business of Design.
Breakthrough Design Principles: Five F
Form follows function is a principle of design associated with late 19th century and early 20th century architecture and industrial design in general, which states that the shape of a building or object should primarily relate to its intended function or purpose.
The mentor of Frank Lloyd Wright, architect Louis Sullivan popularly known as the ‘Father of Modernism’ coined the maxim, which resumes Viollet-le-Duc’s theories: a rationally designed structure may not necessarily be beautiful but no building can be beautiful that does not have a rationally designed structure.
We added three more to Function and Form, making it Five: Function, Form, Feeling, Fling and Flight.
Form follows function principle and remains the same as it is with architecture. But next in line is the Feeling. Then we Define the Feeling and we Design that Defined Feeling with the condition that the designed brand, object or space must have a Vibrant Energy that involuntarily Flings out of the designed objects into people’s hearts where it grows wings and take Flight into other human hearts automatically through conversations and interactions. The buzz starts here. And the buck never stops with function and form.
Designing Customer Attraction
Now, the final point. Designing Customer Attraction must be the core of every successful business design. You can have deep pockets, talented teams, wonderful operations, great products and a well-oiled network, but your enterprise will not be a business until you have the ability to attract a sustainable set of customers. Designing Customer Attraction is the key to business success. How do we design customer attraction? Just by using the right set of tools as while designing any furniture or anything. To create customer attraction – use thoughts, views, words, deeds, colours, images, graphics, typography, sounds, visuals, smell, touch, etc. But use it well. Wisely. And skillfully. Designing Customer Attraction is the essence of Designing a Business.
